Autograph And DiGiCo At Salisbury Playhouse

Salisbury Playhouse is registered arts and educational charity as well as one of Britain’s leading producing theatres. Autograph Sales & Installations have recently supplied a new DiGiCo digital mixing system to ensure that the venue’s audio infrastructure is able to deal with the many and various demands placed on it.

The Salisbury Playhouse is part of Wiltshire Creative, a new pan-arts organisation that brings together the energy and ambition of Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury International Arts Festival and Salisbury Playhouse. It is an ambitious and innovative joint arts offer that secures a bright future for audiences, artists and participants - drawing inspiration from the city of Salisbury the organisation works beyond its boundaries and draws audiences from across the county and further afield. The creation of new work is at the heart of its programme, as it builds new relationships with audiences, artists and participants.

With two performance spaces - the the 517-seat Main House and the 149-seat Salberg - the Playhouse also offers dedicated rehearsal and community rooms. It is committed to commissioning and producing new plays from and inspired by the South West and in addition to their own productions the Playhouse also hosts numerous touring productions. Very much a contemporary multi-purpose location catering for a vast diversity of activities, their ‘Take Part’ programme also engages people of all ages through a wide range of creative learning, schools, community and youth activities.

Autograph’s Giuseppe ‘Peppe’ Mallozzi assisted and advised the Playhouse’s Senior Sound & AV Technician Michael Scott throughout the specification process, eventually settling on a DiGiCo SD9 Rack Pack comprising a control surface, a pair of DiGiCo D-Rack stageboxes, two digital multicores and a touring flight case. That combination provides 96 channels of DSP in total, with 80 analogue head amps, 48 output busses, a 12x8 Matrix, 155 dynamic EQs, 155 multi-band dynamics, 155 DiGiTubes, Recorder Busses, Multichannel Folding and aux VCAs.

The Playhouse delivery also included a DiGiCo Orange Box, which provides range of multichannel user interfaces, in this case supplied with two DMI (DiGiCo Multichannel Interface) cards to facilitate Madi and Dante network connections.

Michael Scott, Senior Sound and AV at the Playhouse commented, ‘Our thanks to all at Autograph for helping us with the purchase of our new sound console and for its first big outing for our musical ‘Moonfleet’ this season.’

‘The kit and service and extra little bits and bobs made our project all the smoother. Supporting us not only with the sale of our new DiGiCo SD9 and Rack Pack but with real time, after-sales support in bedding us in on previously unfamiliar ground with the new console has set us in great stead and with good practice for the future. Peppe, you shan't have heard the last from me and Kayleigh / Will at hires, I hope we can call upon your service and support again very soon!’
