The Royal Central School Of Speech & Drama - Upgrading To DiGiCo With Autograph
London’s The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama recently purchased a new DiGiCo SD10-T digital mixing system from Autograph Sales & Installations. The updated equipment serves dual duty as both a teaching aid and their primary audio mixing system for in-house productions.
Central’s alumni are to be found in all departments of theatre, film and television, in the music industry, in education and in community organisations. Central graduates produce festivals and help to light, design, make, direct or stage manage shows such as the Olympic opening, closing and medal ceremonies. Its graduates also teach, research and renew their subject, finding new applications for theatre, developing new audiences, engaging with new communities and making drama count in society.
This environment of discovery and innovation alongside the development of new knowledge through practice and scholarship informs and enriches all of Central’s activities as a specialist college of drama, performance and the theatre arts.
The relationship between Autograph and the School goes back more than two decades. Autograph routinely provide work experience placements for Central students in addition to creating and delivering bespoke training sessions on contemporary digital mixing for theatre.
The new equipment comprises a DiGiCo SD10-T control surface configured with the company’s theatre-specific ’T’ software (developed in close collaboration with Autograph Sound) complete with a DiGiCo SD-Rack, a DiGiCo SD-Mini Rack and an Optocore optical fibre loop, all packaged as a mobile touring kit to facilitate easy movement of the system when required.
Donato Wharton, the school's Lecturer in Sound for Theatre and Performance, said, 'At The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama we feel fortunate to enjoy a longstanding, excellent relationship with Autograph Sound. In support particularly of our Sound Students working on Musical Theatre productions, Autograph have generously provided access to state-of-the-art equipment, training, mentoring and expert knowledge to the next generation of theatre audio professionals currently studying at Central. Autograph have also over the years offered numerous placement opportunities to our third year Theatre Sound students, which provide invaluable learning experiences, aiding their professional development, as they prepare to head out into the professional world.'
